Publishers

I have done some research into other magazines and their publishers in order to give me a greater idea of what codes and conventions i need to try and stick to in order to create a good product. From my research i have found that Q and Mojo are the two biggest selling monthly magazines whilst NME, New Music Express, is the biggest selling weekly magazine. This research has also shown me that there are two main players when it comes to publishing music magazines. The biggest is Bauer which publishes both Q and Mojo as well as Kerrang! The second biggest is IPC Media who also produce a number of other magazine types as well. A key bit of information that i have learnt from this is that the two most popular music magazines both cover a wide range of music  but do tend to focus in on the genres of Rock and Indie music. This has made it quite clear to me that the market is perhaps flooded by this type of magazine which means i should make my magazine similar in some ways but clearly different in others. It is for this reason that i have chosen to cover the genres of hip hop and indie as it appeals to a younger audience as the genre of Indie music is quite fashionable at the moment whilst the genre of hip hop is also very popular as i found out from my survey.

If i was looking for my magazine to be published then i would probably look towards IPC Media for publishing as currently they do not have a popular monthly magazine to compete with Bauer. Another reason that i would choose IPC for my publishing is that they already have experiance in producing music magazines. Finally, i would also look to Bauer for publishing but they already dominate the monthly music magazine market that i doubt they would be looking to invest more time and money in another magazine.
